This is in response to the Sun Journal editorial of June 11. It suggested that the governor should sign the income tax plan set before him as is, and I agree with most of that, in principle. However, in its enumeration of the specific items on which the sales tax would be raised or added is automobile repairs.
Auto repairs are not a luxury item, since practically every adult in Maine needs an automobile. I know I feel, and I’ll bet practically all the rest of the automobile-owning population feels, that we pay enough for material and labor on auto repairs already. Many, if not most, cars on the road are far from new.
