1931 – 2014

LEWISTON — Ben “Oley” Olsen, 82, died Sunday, Nov. 2, at a Lewiston health care facility.

He was born in Dexter on Dec. 15, 1931, a son of Victor and Mabell (Tario) Olsen. Ben graduated from N.H. Fay High School, Class of 1951, and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine.

He proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and in various capacities for over 20 years.

Ben retired as an electrical engineer with Honeywell Corp. He continued his education throughout his life in diverse fields such as geology and taught at the college level at the University of Arizona. He was a member of the Elks Club.

He is survived by four sons, Richard Mauro of Virginia, Bill Olsen of Augusta, Brian Mauro of Topsham and Carl Olsen of Lewiston; four daughters, Robyn Galbreath of Chelsea, Tanya Malloy of Augusta, Kristen Duplessis of Florida and Karina MacFarland of Chelsea; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by a special daughter-in-law and caregiver, Kelly Olsen.
