1922 – 2014
AUBURN — Hervey Joseph Gravel passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 14, at the age of 92.
He was born in Stornoway, Quebec, Canada. He was the youngest and last surviving sibling of Alphonse and Arthemise (Dupuis) Gravel.
He proudly served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Rhineland, Germany, and received several medals, including the American Campaign Ribbon and Victory Medal.
He owned and operated Gravel’s Self Service in Auburn for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed boating, snowmobiling and especially his home on the ocean in Harpswell.
He is survived by nephews, Dennis and spouse, Claire Gravel, Gary and spouse, Michelle Gravel, Dick and spouse, Mary Gravel, Steve and spouse, Lisa Levesque, Jeff and Glenn Levesque, Ralph Precopio and companion, Debbie, Fern and spouse, Louise Gravel, Bobby and spouse, Susan Gravel; nieces, April and spouse, John Kennedy, Judy and spouse, Barry Valentine, Linda Ellsworth, Jackie and spouse, Mike Fortunato, Lisa Rines and Laurie Bouyea; sisters-in-law, Gloria and spouse, Henry Levesque, and Laurette Goulette; brother-in-law, Marcel and spouse, Joni Goulette; and an extended family of numerous great nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Theresa (Goulette) Gravel in December 2002; friend, Bea Gousse in 2014; his brothers, Lucien, Alyre, Albert, Florian, Luis; and his sisters, Prudence Cameron, Juliette Kraus-Moscardelli, Simone Couture, Germaine St. Pierre, Emileine Gravel and Alice Chabot-Malaney.
