1948 – 2014

DURHAM — Peggy A. League, 65, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 16. Courageously, Peggy lived her life with cystic fibrosis and was among the oldest survivors of the disease in New England.

She was born in Topsham on Dec. 6, 1948, a daughter of Edward H. and Phyllis E. Totman. She grew up on the family dairy farm and graduated from Brunswick High School, where she played basketball and softball, and from the University of Maine.

For many years, she worked in security, retiring from L.L. Bean after 20 years of service as a security guard.

On Nov. 12, 1983, she married Rocky League. They shared many interests, including fly-fishing, deer and bird hunting, antique cars, four-wheeling, farming, gardening and a great love for their dogs and cats.

Peggy and Rocky lived life to the fullest, while never compromising due to their health challenges. In retirement, they zip-lined in Alaska and visited relatives in England and throughout the U.S. In recent years, they took up golf and were active in the Durham Trail Riders Association.

Peggy’s positive attitude toward life brought humor, energy and generosity to everyone she met. Rocky and his beloved wife and “bride,” Peggy, shared 31 wonderful years of marriage.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Rocky League, of Durham; and stepdaughters, Rhonda Toothman, Ann Hammond and Kelly Thigpen, and their children and grandchildren. Also surviving her are her sister, Mary Tajima and husband, Yusuke, of Acton, Mass.; brother, John Totman and wife, Judy, of Old Orchard Beach; brother, Dana Totman and wife, Donna, of Portland; and many loving nieces and nephews.
