HALLOWELL (AP) — Hallowell’s city manager says he will reappoint the police chief even after reprimanding him after the chief was accused of sexual misconduct.
City Manager Michael Starn told the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1zFTaAn ) on Wednesday he will reappoint Chief Eric Nason after “looking at his entire career,” which includes more than 25 years with the department, nearly a decade as chief.
The reappointment is subject to ratification by the city council in January.
Most councilors did not want to speculate, but Councilor Lynn Irish says Nason has “served this city well for a long time.”
Nason received a written reprimand after having a romantic relationship with a female subordinate. The woman accused Nason of sexual assault, but he was never criminally charged and said their relationship was consensual.
