LEWISTON – The Lewiston Public Library will host a children’s holiday singalong from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22. Featured will be Matt Loosigian, Jake Paris and Beth Almquist (aka Mrs. A the StoryLady).

The trio will lead the singing of familiar holiday favorites with guitar, bass and perhaps some additional percussion. A booklet with lyrics will be provided; hot chocolate will be served; and Mrs. A may read a fun story.

The library encourages attendees to bring some cookies or other goodies to share with everyone.

This program is free, but tickets are required. For tickets, call 513-3133.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the holiday singalong. “It keeps growing every year, so we must be doing something right,” said Jake Paris, library technician and musician responsible for initiating the event. “Many people like to sing, they just need some encouragement that they won’t be alone. That’s what we hope to do at the singalong – help people come together and enjoy each other,” he said.

Paris will play bass and percussion to accompany the singing.

Founder of EarthJams, Loosigian described that organization as having “put music back into the hands of the many. We express our souls through singing, and the gift of making music belongs to everyone.”

Almquist, the library’s resident storylady, enjoys books, music and teaching. She has a music degree from Johns Hopkins University and plays french horn with both the Maine State Ballet Orchestra and the Mid-Coast Symphony Orchestra.
