1937 – 2015

AUBURN — Constance “Connie” Porter Scott, 77, of Scarborough, died due to complications from cancer on Monday, Jan. 5, at the Auburn home of her daughter, Brenda, surrounded by family and her beloved dog, Molly.

Connie was born on June 21, 1937, in Reading, Mass., to parents Paul and Dorothy Porter. She graduated from South Portland High School in 1955, and later from the University of Southern Maine. Connie lived in Cape Porpoise before moving to South Portland, where she met and married her husband and together raised their four daughters.

Connie’s accomplished career included reporter, columnist and editor of the Portland Press Herald/Sunday Telegram. She was also a published author.

Family was a priority and Connie loved life with them near the sea and on the lake. She served as a role model for lifelong learning, including earning a degree later in life, practicing astrology and numerology, gardening and being a voracious reader. Connie’s passion for local history led to published photo documentations of a century of change for several communities.

She was an active member of the Scarborough bowling league, where she enjoyed enduring friendships. Connie remained active with her high school class, planning collaboratively with dear friends for many reunions.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Darrel; companion, Raymond Totman; parents; and brother, Richard.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice of Lewiston. Special thanks to devoted RNs, Cindy, Molly, Margaret and Kathleen; and CNAs, Stephanie, Brittany, Angela and Gretchen, for their reliable, tender, personal care and expert guidance. The family also recognizes and thanks Helen Chamberlain of Scarborough for her presence, help and especially, longtime loyal friendship.
