I would like to take the opportunity to thank the selectmen from the town of Poland for working alongside local residents in purchasing a piece of property (Furman lot) that abuts other town land. That most recent purchase comes not long after the town acquired land that was part of a subdivision (Hilt Hollow) gone bad.

The “Hilt Hollow” subdivision piece gives access and trailhead locations to the newly bought Furman lot. The timing and efforts of local residents and selectmen made that project happen. The residents of Poland can now enjoy hiking over the contiguous 125-acre lot for years to come.

I also understand that the town of Poland didn’t have to use taxpayers’ money to buy the piece of land because it was donated by nearly 60 local people, and that nearly 150 people braved the snow to vote to buy the Furman lot.

I have driven down the “Hilt Hollow” subdivision road and the fact that the town owns most of the lots that are beside the Furman lot is truly a great asset for the town.

That goes to show that some small town selectmen really do care about the town’s residents and the future.
