Besides the many offerings of the Great Falls Balloon Festival in the Twin Cities’ downtown area, many other events will be happening this weekend. Here are a few:

Friday, Aug. 15

• An evening with guitarist Bill Frisell at 5:30 and 8 p.m. at The Maple Room on Park Street in Lewiston, 866-901-1036.

Saturday, Aug. 16

• A Venetian benefit auction at McLaughlin Garden in South Paris at 5:30 p.m. This year’s theme honors Italy and all the romance of Venice. The barn is transformed. • The Friends of the Auburn Public Library used paperback book sale of fiction titles from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. More than 3,000 mass market and trade paperbacks novels. Proceeds support APL’s collections, services and programs. For more information, call 333-6640.
