1963 – 2015

OXFORD — Douglas E. Rugg, 52, of Oxford, died Thursday, Feb. 19, at his home, following a hard-fought battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Norway on Jan. 10, 1963, a son of Edwin and Amy (Cummings) Rugg. He attended local schools and graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1981. He married Gerri Bailey on Oct. 22, 1983.

Over the years, he worked as a truck driver for various places, along with being Dr. Doogie to his close friends and family after acquiring his “PHD” (public high school diploma).

His favorite activities included tinkering on old tractors, riding his Goldwing and playing with his band, The Misfits. He also had a private pilot’s license and was a HAM radio operator.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Gerri B. Rugg; mother, Amy Scribner; son, Joshua Rugg, senior airman, U.S. Air Force; daughters, Kaci Rugg, Gretchen Castro and her husband, Luis, and Chelsea Rugg; grandsons, Jaden and Kiran Castro; siblings, Dennis Rugg and wife, Jan, Becky Mosley and husband, Danny, Ramona Mitchell and husband, Doug, Rowena Woodman and husband, Leo, and Roberta Andrews and husband, Jeff; in-laws, Gloria Michaud and husband, Jerry, Gene Bailey and wife, Laurie, Guy Bailey and companion, Roxanne, Glen Bailey and Trudy Byron and husband, Dick; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Lauri Kyllonen, Jason Kyllonen, Bob Corriveau, Fritz Gurschick, David Witham and Chuck Howe.

He was predeceased by his father, Edwin Rugg; and later by his stepfather, Kendric Scribner.
