SOUTH PARIS — Marian Rose Culbert, 91, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris where she lived for the past three years.
Marian was born in Otisfield on Feb. 16, 1924, to Fred and Doris Hamlin Culbert. She attended East Otisfield (Pugleyville) elementary schools and graduated from Oxford High School in 1943.
Marian joined the U.S. Navy Waves on June 1, 1944. She proudly served her country and was honorably discharged on March 16, 1946.
She worked in the local Bell Telephone System for 28 years and nine months before retiring. She also assisted her parents in their Will-o-Lawn tourist business.
Marian was a lifetime member of the East Otisfield Baptist Church and had the honor of being the longest life member. She was very dedicated and served through the years on most committees; she was also a Deacon Emeritus. Marian developed and served as chairperson of the scholarship fund for local, college-bound children, which continues to be a successful project for the church.
Marian enjoyed life and was enthusiastic for whatever she was involved with. She liked golfing, eating out, trying new things, like riding a Harley motorcycle, and elephants, gardening and most of all she loved animals, especially dogs.
Marian is survived by dear friends, Vickie Rogers, Pattie and Al Haggerty, Jean Murch and her church family; cousins, Mid Culbert Henderson and her family, Sandy Grover Dunn and her family, especially Terri Dunn, whom she called “The Kid,” and many other cousins as well.
