1919 – 2015
AUBURN — Alma M. Caux, 95, of 18 Brule St., Lewiston, died Monday, Feb. 23, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn.
Born in Lewiston on July 9, 1919, she was the daughter of Arthur and Alma Croteau Moreau. Educated in local schools, she married Fernand F. Caux on Dec. 27, 1941, at Saints Peter and Paul Church, and they were happily married for 66 years until his passing on Feb. 13, 2008.
She held several jobs over the years, moving from Shapiro Brothers Shoe to the Youth Center Children’s Store, and finally the Children’s Department of Peck’s Department Store, retiring when they closed in 1981. A member of Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish, she belonged to the Ladies of St. Ann.
She enjoyed knitting, gardening, loved her pet cats, especially her Charcoal, watching and feeding birds, doing word search puzzles, dining out and especially enjoyed family card games on Sunday night. She took a great interest in local news, and religiously read the Lewiston paper from cover to cover every day.
Survivors include a son, Roger and wife, Georgette, of Greene; a daughter, Connie Caux of Lewiston; two grandsons, John Caux of Boston, Mass., and Michael Caux of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Roseanna Houle of Auburn; sisters-in-law, Rita Castonguay and Geraldine Moreau, both of Lewiston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Jeanne Grandmaison, Theresa Mathieu and Yvonne Bouchard; and five brothers, Romeo, Robert, Arthur, Albert and Raymond Moreau.
The family thanks the staff of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for all the loving care they gave Alma over the past year.
