FREEPORT – The Southern Maine Children’s Chorus, part of the USM Youth Ensembles program, will perform its spring concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Freeport Performing Arts Center.

Under the direction of Lise Dunn, the concert will include performances by the Concert Choir and the Training Choir, a total of 100 young singers. The combined choirs will begin with African processional music and other works arranged by D.V. Montoya. Then the Concert Choir will perform the “Alleluia, Amen” from “Place of the Blest,” by Randall Thompson; and “Stars, Songs and Faces,” by Nick Page, with the Mid-Coast Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Karla Kelly. The orchestra will also perform works without the choir.

The Training Choir will sing “The Fox,” a traditional folk song; “The Castle of Dromore,” a traditional Irish folk song; “Cindy,” an American folk song; and “Rejoice and Sing!” by Rollo Dilworth.

The Concert Choir will perform “Niska Banja,” a Serbian gypsy dance arranged by Nick Page; “Ose Shalom,” based on a Hebrew text with music by John Leavitt; “Hotaru Koi,” a Japanese children’s song; “Creo En Dios,” by Francisco Nunez; “Creed,” from “Misa Pequena Para Ninos,” a children’s Mass; and “Homeward Bound,” by Marta Keen. The final work sung by the combined choirs will be “Castles In the Air, by Christopher Eastburn and Eliza Moore.
