1923 – 2015

FARMINGTON — Sybil Florence Bailey, 91, passed away peacefully at Pinewood Terrace on Sunday, March 8, with family by her side.

She was born in Wilton on July 1, 1923, the oldest of five children to Clarence E. and Marion (Wheeler) Bailey. She was a member of the 1941 graduating class of Livermore Falls High School.

In 1944, she was married to Vinal Prescott, until his death in 1975. She was subsequently married to Tommy Lehto, who died in 1978.

Throughout her life, she worked at various jobs, including as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Fayette, a waitress at the Lakeshore Restaurant, a music teacher and performer and, finally, as a legal secretary for the law firm of Cloutier, Joyce and David.

Sybil enjoyed a lifelong love of music and enjoyed traveling, especially in her retirement years. She participated in many activities in Livermore Falls, including singing in many choirs, the Daughters of Rebekah, the Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Foundation, the Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group, the Livermore Falls Seniors and the Red Hat Society. She was also active in the development of the Livermore Falls town gazebo, which is dedicated to her father.

Sybil is survived by a sister, Mary Marquardt, of Strafford, N.H; a brother, Francis “Bill” Bailey, of Fairfield, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Acy Bailey, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Elaine Crowley, of Alexandria, Va.; a son, Roger Prescott, and his wife, Teresa, also of Alexandria, Va.; and five grandchildren, Dana Crowley Briggs, Kerry Elizabeth Crowley, Tim Crowley, Brigid Prescott and Christopher Prescott.

She was predeceased by both husbands; two brothers, Clarence “Norey” Bailey and Paul Bailey; sisters-in-law, Maxine Bailey and Avis “Jill” Bailey; a brother-in-law, Matt Marquardt; and her son, Robert Prescott.
