RUMFORD — The Chisholm Alpine Race Program announces a “Try It Free” Day to be held at Black Mountain of Maine on Sunday, March 29. Mark Thibodeau and Tim LaVallee, a former U.S. national coach, are the coaches. This is a great opportunity for kids between the ages of 8 and 18 to try the program for free. Registration is inside the main lodge between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
The program is a multi-level program designed for young ski racers from the ages of 8 to 18. The program begins every year the day the mountain opens, runs on Saturdays and Sundays and is designed to take on a specialized approach for training that will develop higher degrees of physical, mental, technical and tactical preparation.
This past season, six high school athletes from the Chisholm Alpine Race Program represented Maine in the Eastern United States Championships. Several other athletes from the program made the podium in their respective conference championship as well as in their state meets.
For young racers, the developmental group focuses on the fundamentals of racing and keeping it fun. These features are carried over into the upper level group as skiers progress and more attention is brought to technique and tactics.
For more information, call program director Thibodeau at 207-577-2551 or 207-364-8977. Black Mountain of Maine is located at 39 Glover Road in Rumford.
