The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards was formed in 1971 by the amalgamation of the 3rd Carabiniers and the Royal Scots Greys and has an unbroken history of service from 1678 through European Wars, South Africa, two World Wars and the 1991 Gulf War.

The Coldstream Regiment was formed in 1650. The Band of the Coldstream Guards has been in existence for more than 200 years, making it one of the oldest military bands in the world. Today, the band is scaled for 49 musicians who double on instruments and are trained as medical assistants and may be called upon to serve as stretcher bearers and field hospital assistants. The band became the first British military band to visit North America when it traveled to Canada in 1903.
