Auburn is soon to have a moving picture show. A Mr. Johnson accompanied by Harry Morton, one of the proprietors of the Elm House, appeared before Mayor Webber and the finance committee last evening and asked regarding a permit or license. They were assured that there would be no trouble about the matter, several of the members of the city government expressing themselves as pleased that the city is to have such a form of entertainment. It is understood that the Wood-Robinson Co., building on Main St., will be renovated and made into a hall.

• The U. S. Office of Education says Maine’s college enrollments increased by 12.8 per cent in 1957. The increase was three times greater than the national average, and just a whisker below the 13.9 per cent recorded in Virginia.

25 years ago, 1982

WASHINGTON – Most Americans’ income tax rates will go down again on Saturday as the third installment of the cuts won by President Reagan in 1981 takes hold. But separate taxes will go up for people who smoke cigarettes, have telephones or make more than $32,400 a year.

RUMFORD – An over view of the past year from town and school officials, along with what they see for the future, is encouraging residents. Rumford Town Manager Robert Noe said, “Looking over the past year, I think the most outstanding thing was the 95 percent accomplishment of the Downtown Revitalization Project. The project included the paving of parking lots, new sidewalk, new mini park, resurfacing of streets and ornamental street lighting.
