RUMFORD — Rumford Historical Society has announced changes in the society’s spring events.
The society will feature Nghia Ha and Jane Peterson, board members and participants in the RSU 10 grant from Maine Historical Society and Maine Humanities Council, at its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in auditorium of the Rumford Town Hall. Light refreshments will be served.
The $2,000 grant to RSU 10, the Rumford Public Library and the Rumford Historical Society will fund the research of artifacts and regional individuals who went to the Civil War.
Photos and narrative of “Rumford’s Notables in the Civil War” has recently been added as an exhibit on the Maine Memory Network. The presenters will review their research and provide instructions for participants to review Rumford’s history on the website for the Western Foothills.
The annual meeting of the Members will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, in the Town Hall Auditorium. The program will feature a presentation titled “The Ancestral Androscoggin Esker and Related Local Glacial Features.” Speaker will be Bob Elliott, a naturalist and environmental educator.
A follow-up field trip to visit the glacial erosions and deposits is available at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Junction of Rts. 2 and 232, near the Rumford Point Congregational Church. Call Bob at 207-824-2928 for details.
