BRUNSWICK – There will be goblins and grandparents, children and a variety of animals, traditional and not-so-traditional tales, music and dance at The Theater Project for two weekends. “A Holiday Festival,” a show for the entire family, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14-15 and 21-22, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16.
Artistic Director Al Miller has gathered an eclectic group that includes actors from The Theater’s Young Company, Young People’s Theater troupe, the Spindleworks ensemble, and actors and musicians who frequently perform at The Theater Project.
A Young Company ensemble will perform Thornton Wilder’s seldom seen one-act play “The Long Christmas Dinner,” which follows a New England family through 90 years of Christmases. Karin Baard, Trevor Bostic, Emily Bowie, Joe Faustine, Rose Lortie, Aimee St. James, Sean McGuire, Christian Schneider and Emily Weddle are the actors. They will also dart on and off the stage with holiday improvisations.
A Young People’s Theater ensemble of middle-school actors will perform the story “Herschel and the Hannukah Goblins.” For those who don’t know this tale, be prepared for remarkable heroics performed during Hannukah by an ordinary but very clever man.
The Spindleworks ensemble will perform a series of improvised dance interpretations developed during rehearsals for a later production of “A Cirque du Peuple” in collaboration with The Theater Project.
Don Weatherbee, Jim Hall and Jean Shaw, teachers and actors in The Theater Project’s collaboration with Spindleworks, will provide music and dance. Miller, also a part of that collaboration, will add Dylan Thomas’ “A Child Christmas in Wales” – and will invite a variety of small and large animals in the audience to climb inside a mitten to keep warm, or try to.
Tickets to this hour-and-a-half show of goblins, animals, dance and holiday memories are $12. Reservations are suggested. For tickets, call the box office at 729-8584, or visit the theater at 14 School St.
