It was not expected that we would have to be plowed out again but sure enough, we had appointments in Portland and woke up to another blast of winter. So I cancelled our appointments and made new ones for July, hoping that traveling would be possible by then. In our younger days snow would not have stopped us but now we have reached maturity, common sense prevails.
The family had a very enjoyable Easter get together at Pat and Charlie’s. Paula and Judi were hostesses but Pat was busy making sure everyone had enough to eat. We had ham, turkey, mashed potato, peas, carrots, Judi’s special salad and lots more. Tricia could not make it so we didn’t have her yeast rolls and they were missed. We were given enough left overs to keep us for three days and we both were thankful as cooking is no longer easy for either of us. Attending were Mary and Frank Perham, Paula, Dana and Russell, Paul, Brenda and Luke, Deven and Judi, Ian and Lynsey, Tony Andrews, Pat and Charlie, Dell and I. I had not seen Ian since his travels to Seattle and Phoenix, which he said were interesting. And we thank Pat and Charlie for making their home available for our get togethers.
Dell made some applesauce this morning. We went up to Coopers yesterday and purchased apples and local honey. Local honey is supposed to help with seasonal allergies and we are getting kind of drippy with all the trees budding out and the grasses starting up. We put a bit on our cereal in the morning. Dell felt kind of miserable for a few days with a head cold but is all better now.
Paul and Brenda held a birthday party for three-year-old Luke last Sunday at Crosstone Restaurant. The birthday boy received many gifts and was some excited. I could use that tricycle myself. In a larger size. Mary and Frank Perham are celebrating their 60th anniversary on the 18th. Will tell you about that next week. We are all going out to dinner at Crosstone’s.
We were out and about Thursday and noticed some out-of-state cars on Main Street. Are the snowbirds returning?
The AARP luncheon was well attended Monday. We had a simply delicious luncheon, then a speaker, Valerie Cole, from SeniorsPlus. Had no idea there were so many services available. There is a waiting list for Meals on Wheels, mostly due to cutbacks on funding. If they want to keep us at home they need to provide such services. If you need help of any kind, contact SeniorsPlus and see what they can recommend. They are at the Norway Town Office each month also. They say help is only a phone call away at 800-427-1241.
Tuesday we went down to Portland to The Egg and I where the Marine Corps veterans meet monthly. Eleanor Heidrich had a carpal tunnel operation done early that morning but that didn’t stop her and she rode down with us, ice pack and all. It was done under a local anesthetic and she came smiling through it all. Also, if you see Eleanor wish her a happy birthday, which she celebrated on Wednesday.
I need to apologize to Mark Thurlow. I identified him as Mark Poland due to a brain cramp or something. He knows who he is anyway and Kevin Jr. enjoyed feeding his piglets.
Have been thinking about aging lately. It seems to be the only way to live a long time. It’s a relative thing anyway. You are young as long as you have a relative who is older.
