RUMFORD – “Rear Window,” the stylish 1954 Hitchcock classic, will be shown Friday, Nov. 9, at the public library.
Film legends James Stewart and Grace Kelly star in this story of a photographer (Stewart), temporarily disabled by a broken leg, who inadvertently discovers that his neighbor may be a murderer. His fiancée, played by Kelly, wants to prove her mettle by doing the sleuth work, a choice that leads her to escalating danger while Stewart can only watch helplessly behind the lens of his camera.
The cinematography and authentic ’50s setting, complete with lightly nuanced music of the period, complement the suspense crafted in classic Hitchcock fashion.
More than 50 years later, the film still resonates with audiences who appreciate the carefully crafted plot, intriguing mystery and film icons of the past.
Character actors Wendell Corey and Thelma Ritter along with Raymond Burr play supporting roles.
The film, which runs one hour and 53 minutes, will begin at 7 p.m. in the public room downstairs. Please use side entrance. Refreshments and the film are offered free to the public.
