CARTHAGE – New England Celtic Arts will present fiddler Ed Howe, a member of the popular Dave Rowe Trio, and A Maine Fiddler’s Showcase Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center.

Howe, of Damariscotta, plays regularly at dances all over New England. He comes from a musical family and started playing fiddle at age of 4, learning the Suzuki method. His musical interests include bluegrass and Celtic. He has taught at the Maine Fiddle Camp and other sites throughout the state.

Howe has an extensive electronics background and developed an interest in the electric violin. He uses loops, effects and various techniques to create the sound desired from his fiddle. He plays a 5-string NS Designs electronic violin using an AKG wireless and MXR equalization. Watching him play bare-footed and operating complex electronic equipment with his feet is a sight to behold.

Joining Howe for this show will be well known Wilton fiddle teacher and musician Steve Muise. Selected members of the Franklin County Fiddlers and the Maine band Frigate will join Muise and Howe on stage. A preshow jam session starting at 6:15 p.m. will feature audience members and musicians. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.

Skye Theatre is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route 2. Tickets are $10 at the door, with reservations suggested. Call New England Celtic Arts at 562-4445 for tickets. For more information, log on to www.necelticarts.com.
