The Norway Historical Society and the Western Maine Art Group begin a month-long exhibit of Art Treasures of the Norway Historical Society with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m., June 5 at the Matolcsy Center, 480 Main St., Norway. Norway has produced some notable artists, including some skilled and renowned professionals, including Vivian Akers, George Noyes, Lee Bean, Duncan Slade, and Minnie Libby. This exhibit from the collection of the Norway Historical Society features the work of local artists from the late-nineteenth through the twentieth century. Many of these artists were known to each other, were (and are) well-known in Norway. In addition, the subjects of the portraits included in the exhibit were local residents. This exhibit represents the continuity of a community’s art for more than a century. The reception and exhibit are open to the public. Following the reception on June 5, the Matolcsy Center will be open Thursdays through Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., through the month of June.
