“What is so rare as a day in June.” This is a line from the poem The Vision of Sir Longfall. I don’t remember who the author of the poem was; however, I think we will all agree that weatherwise the month of June is the nicest month of the year. Although the month began with a rainy day, at least it wasn’t snow.

Tomorrow, June 6th, the FSNA will be holding their lawn sale at the meetinghouse from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hopefully, it will be a lovely June day.

Of course, there will be a lot of different activities at school as the school year comes to an end. June 14th is Flag Day. If possible, we should display the American flag on that day and take a little time to think of all it stands for.

Later in the month, June 20th to be exact, will be the annual 4-H fair at the Farmington Fairgrounds. There will be workshops, exhibits, and many other interesting attractions.

On Saturday evening, there will be an auction at the Starbird Building starting at 7 p.m. The auction will benefit the Franklin County 4-H Leaders’ Association. Please bring your own chair.

June 22-25 will be the 4-H Camp at the Fairbanks meetinghouse each evening from 6 to 8 p.m. All children from age 5-12 are welcome to attend the camp. The topic of the camp will be “Trees and Me”. The group will be discussing many different kinds of trees and how trees help us, and will learn about how maple syrup is made, planting a tree and many, many other things.

Someone recently gave me a copy of the Franklin Journal published in 1939 when I was a girl. The print was so small that I found it hard to read and I noticed that there were no color pictures as there are in the paper today. Many of the ads such as Arbo Noton sound familiar but the prices for food and other things were unbelievably low. I am not a person who wants to live in the so-called good old days but as far as prices are concerned it might help our pocketbooks.

Happy birthday to everyone celebrating in the glorious month of June. We also want to say congratulations to John Hagerstrom, Sr. who recently celebrated his 90th birthday. See you at the lawn sale tomorrow.
