WINTHROP –Critically acclaimed author Eleanor Morse will be reading from her new novel, “White Dog Fell from the Sky” on at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 23 at the newly renovated Bailey Public Library in downtown Winthrop. Adult Services librarian Shane Billings will host a community discussion on the novel the week before Morse’s talk on at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 17.
The story is set in 1977 and centers on Isaac Muthethe, a medical student who flees South Africa after military officials throw one of his peers under a train. Publisher’s Weekly describes the book as an exploration of “the strength of friendship” and “the bonds of love.” The book was a must-read pick from Oprah Winfrey, who described the novel as “tense and heartfelt.”
Morse has an MFA in creative writing and is also the author of the award winning novel, “Enchanted Forest.” In “White Dog Fell from the Sky,” Morse draws on her experience of living in southern Africa for a number of years. Morse, who resides on Peaks Island, has taught in adult education programs, prisons, and university systems, both in Maine and Africa.
