LEWISTON — The Franco Center, in association with both the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College and the Québec Delegation to Boston, will celebrate Saint-Jean-Baptise Day and Franco-American culture and heritage beginning at 11 a.m. June 24.

The event will start with a social hour and cash bar in the Center’s Heritage Hall. A feast day luncheon will be served at 12:15 p.m., followed by a celebration of the event in the Performance Hall. This will include a keynote address by award-winning Canadian author, Julie Barlow. Other guests include Bishop Robert Deeley, Diocese of Portland, and Marie-Claude Francoeur, head of the Québec Delegation to Boston.

The traditional feast day menu includes pea soup, salad, Tourtière (Québec pork pie), salmon pie with egg sauce and crepes for dessert. Reservations for the meal must be made in advance. The cost is $10 per person and can be paid for at the door, purchased online or at the box office.

The bells from the former St. Louis Church will be on display at the Franco Center event. Churches from across the twin cities will ring their own bells at noon to celebrate the day. The 1:30 program will be held in the Performance Hall, and will include speakers, the Franco-American Veterans Color Guard and music by Les Troubadours and other musicians.

The keynote address, by Barlow, will begin at 2:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

Since 1994, Barlow has published across Canada, the United States and Europe, in the New York Times, USA Today, The International Herald Tribune, The Christian Science Monitor and Le Courier International. Barlow publishes in both English and French. Her literary career has been devoted to exploring language and cultural differences. With her husband, Jean-Benoit Nadeau (author of “The French Have An Accent, Too”), she published her first book, “Sixty Million Frenchmen Can’t Be Wrong,” in 2003, based on their experience living in France for two years.

Reserved meal tickets are $10. To purchase tickets, visit the box office at 46 Cedar St., go online to www.francocenter.org or call 207-689-2000. Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 12-4 p.m.

Other events related to Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day include live music and tours at the former St. Louis Church in New Auburn from 3:30-5 p.m., and the “Franco-American Treasures” exhibit at USM’s L-A Campus in Lewiston.

The exhibit will remain in place through October 10. Exhibit hours are weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge.
