FARMINGTON — Have a story to tell? Love listening to tales about your Maine neighbors?
Join the Western Maine Storytellers and friends at the open mic on Saturday June 13th at 9:30 p.m., at the Thai Smile & Sushi Restaurant at 103 Narrow Gauge Square, just off Front Street in Farmington. All are welcome to this free, yearly event, fondly referred to as “The Tale End,” since it brings a full day of storytelling performances to a riotous close.
During the first half-hour of The Tale End, three featured tellers will spin their tales: Phyllis Blackstone of Farmington, Michael Cooper of Farmington, and Jo Radner of Lovell. Then, the mic will be open to as many people as possible who would like to tell a story lasting no longer than five minutes. As the Tale End begins, storytellers will put their name in a hat; those whose names are drawn will tell their tale.
Thanks to the generosity of a Western Maine Storytellers board member, free appetizers will be served at the beginning of the evening. Since the kitchen of Thai Smile & Sushi Restaurant will be open, people can order additional food, both appetizers and dinners.
Get inspiration for your own stories by coming to the other June 13th storytelling events. Celebrated Japanese American mime-storyteller Motoko and her African American partner, jazz vocalist-storyteller Eshu Bumpus, will present a free multicultural folktale program for families at the Farmington Public Library at 10 a.m. Their evening performance of “Chicken-Fried Sushi: Stories to Nourish Your Soul” will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Emery Community Arts Center on the University of Maine at Farmington campus.
