The demand for gasoline has reached such proportions in Bath that the Standard Oil company has to make more extensive arrangements for properly handling it there and consequently will commence at one upon the work of erecting a big steel storage tank, near the point where it already has a large storage tank for oil. This new tank will have a capacity of 1200 gallons and will be so arranged that it can be filled directly by pumps from the tank cars in which the gasoline will be brought.

• The Cleveland Indians today turned down an offer of a million dollars cash by the Boston Red Sox for their ace pitcher, Herb Score. Greenburg said he told Cronin that he was interested in building a ball club not selling one and that Score was not available.
• Capt. Robert Baker of the Salvation Army, in a talk to Kawanians at the YMCA yesterday noon, stressed the Army’s need of $75,000 for a new building in Lewiston. The local Salvation Army leader said the Women’s Auxiliary of the Army will sponsor a fashion show April 4 to raise funds for furnishings.

• The City of Augusta threw a 150th birthday party for the Statehouse on Wednesday – complete with a cake, music by the Cony High School band and chorus, and a crowd of about 300 people looking on.
• Financial pressures are prompting a growing number of state universities to stiffen admissions standards to hold down enrollment. At the same time, legions of bright applicants who in better economic times would have chosen prestigious but expensive private schools are applying to public colleges. Because of the squeeze, many state universities say they are forced to raise admissions standards and tuition.
