DENMARK — Nina Miller loves the sound of the “jumping flea, better known by its native Hawaiian name, the ukulele. This love is what led her to do something most folks would find foolish: assemble a 20-person amateur ukulele orchestra to tour across Maine. At 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 20, The Flukes will play the Denmark Arts Center, 50 West Main St. Suggested donation is $12.
“The ukulele makes everyone smile and laugh; it makes us all joyous, “ Miller said. “That is the only reason we needed to found The Flukes. Everyone always smiles and laughs whenever we play, whether or not it’s good or bad!”
The Flukes were founded by Falmouth Memorial Library staff members Andi Jackson-Darling, Ellen Conway and Nina Miller, staffer and French hornist with the Portland Symphony Orchestra in January 2012. FMI call 207-781-2351 or visit the Falmouth Flukes on Facebook.
The event is BYOB and in cabaret style. To make a reservation or find more information visit www.denmarkarts.org or call 207-452-2412.
