OWLS HEAD – Bay Chamber Concerts will present a “Let it Snow Dance Party,” featuring the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Owls Head Transportation Museum.
Jimmy Dorsey is considered one of the finest clarinet and alto saxophone players of the big band era of the 1940s. He toured with his younger brother, Tommy Dorsey, for many years before Tommy left the group to form his own band. Jimmy’s greatest hit, and the last instrumental hit by any big band artist, was “So Rare.” Jimmy was given a gold record for “So Rare” just two days before his death, on June 12, 1957.
The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra has continued under the leadership of Lee Castle and Jim Miller. It is now under the direction of trombonist Bill Tole, who has recorded with such legendary artists as Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. He portrayed Tommy Dorsey in the 1977 Martin Scorsese film “New York, New York.” Nancy Knorr, lead singer with the legendary vocal ensemble The Pied Pipers, and Tole’s sister, is the featured vocalist.

The price of admission includes the dance lesson and light refreshments. Tickets are $29 for adults, $8 for anyone 25 or younger.
Seating is general admission at tables surrounding the dance floor. Though dancing is encouraged, seating is available to those who prefer to sit back and listen.
