ATV safety class offered in Turner

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult and Community Education will offer a summer ATV safety class from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 22, and Thursday, June 25.

The class will explore how to properly operate and maintain an ATV, laws, responsibilities and personal safety.

Passage of a final exam is required, and students must attend both classes to receive certificate. Students under 16 years old, must be accompanied by an adult.

Basket ball camp starts June 29

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult and Community Education will host Hornet Pride Summer Boys Basketball Camp running Mondays and Wednesdays, June 29 through July 22, for boys in grades three to six.

A camp for girls, grades one to eight, will run Monday through Thursday, July 27 to 30.

The focus of the camps will be on developing fundamental skills and having fun while learning the game from the LAHS Basketball coaching staff and players.

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education has announced its summer camps and course listings. Among the listings are:

Photography camp from July 6-10 for ages eight to 12. Campers will need a basic point-and-shoot digital camera.

An introductory Quickbooks class from July 7-Aug. 4.

A Watercolor Paint Party on July 8.

A Youth Field Hockey camp from July 8-Aug. 5 for grades two to eight. Students need to bring turf shoes or cleats, shin guards, mouth guards and stick. Sixth to 8th graders also need goggles.

Summer reading registration open at Norway Library

NORWAY — Young readers could kiss a pig, meet a police dog and meet Don Fendler during the summer reading program at the Norway Memorial Library.

Registration for the program will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 24.

At the registration, children may pick up reading record sheets, get vouchers for a free tickets to a Sea Dogs game and sign up for the Terrific Tuesdays and the Super Thursdays Readers book clubs.

Fryeburg Police Domestic Violence Awareness Ribbons

FRYEBURG — Fryeburg Selectmen voted unanimously on May 28 to allow the placement of purple domestic violence awareness ribbons on the Police Department’s cruisers and make them part of the permanent scheme. The ribbons were requested by Chief Joshua Potvin to help officers spread domestic violence awareness while on patrol.

Fryeburg Police will be joining domestic violence advocates and supporters Wednesday, June 24, at 2 p.m at Bradley Park on Main Street in Fryeburg for the unveiling of the ribbons.

Maine AllCare River Valley Chapter meeting

RUMFORD — Maine AllCare River Valley Chapter meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 24. This meeting will be held at the Rumford Public Library.

Discussion topics will include upcoming events, public education about universal health care and the need for accessible and affordable health care for all Maine citizens.

RUMFORD — Rumford High School Class of 1975 will celebrate its 40th reunion Saturday, July 25, at 49 Franklin St.

SeniorsPlus Long Distance Learning Class June 25

LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus will hold its second class its series on healthy aging, connecting community members in the Farmington area with live educational seminars being held at the Lewiston Education Center of SeniorsPlus.

The class, Some Easy to Swallow Information Part II, will be held on Thursday, June 25, at 1 p.m. at Western Maine Community Action in East Wilton.

The class will discuss the facts about the health of the lower gastrointestinal tract, a continuation of April’s Upper GI class. The presenter is Dr. Alan Verrill, an internist affiliated with Central Maine Medical Center and Bridgeton Hospital.

Residents of the Wilton area will be able to gather at Western Maine Community Action and be connected in real time to the group that is meeting in Lewiston.

Community members who wish to join the classroom at Western Maine Community Action need to register with SeniorsPlus. The class is free and open to the public.
