AUBURN – “Godspell” will return to Lewiston-Auburn’s Community Little Theatre after more than a decade. This lively musical, originally conceived by John-Michael Tebelak, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, has been a huge success, both off and on Broadway.

Based on the Bible’s Gospel of Matthew and featuring such well-loved songs as “Day by Day,” “Godspell” brings Jesus’ parables come to life – imparting lessons of goodwill, acceptance and love.

Colleen Mahan, director/musical director, has chosen a nontraditional concept for the setting: a homeless street scene in a back alley outside a mission. The show retells many of the parables in the Gospel of St. Matthew with illustrations through joyful song, dance and improvisation.

Marcus Bagala has the lead role of Jesus with James Kramlich playing dual roles as John and Judas. The disciples will be played by Karen McArthur, Katherine Demarest, Rebecca Mesple, Vincent Ratsavong, Christopher Sabo, Elizabeth Snyder, Maya Tepler and Kathi Asquith.

Assisting Mahan is Pam Vaillancourt as assistant director with Linda Britt as mentor. Vincent Ratsavong is choreographer.

Producing the play is Suzanne Carbonneau with Stan Spilecki, set design; Richard Martin, light design; Scott Powers, sound design; Lyn Ballou, costumer; Rachel Morin, publicity; Pat Garcia, properties; and Melody Driscoll, prompter.

Providing music are Sam Bagala, pianist and pit conductor; Haydn Deal, guitarist; Britnee Ward, bass; and Sky Critchfield, drums.

“Godspell” will be presented March 9-18 at Great Falls Performing Arts Center, 30 Academy St.. Advance tickets are $15/$13. Reservations for tickets and theater/dinner packages for the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch and Marco’s Italian Restaurant, Lewiston, may be made by calling the box office at 783-0958; or online at www.laCLT.com.
