Farmington Public Library announces new operating hours

FARMINGTON — Effective immediately, the Farmington Public Library will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The library is located at 117 Academy St. All library programs are free and open to the public.

Borrowing privileges are free for Farmington residents. Non-residents may join for an annual fee of $25 per household (the town of Industry reimburses their residents).

Estate planning topic of discussion

FARMINGTON — The Upper Kennebec Valley Chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine will hold an informative session, Estate Planning and Contracts, Your Questions Answered, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Farmington Town Office, 153 Farmington Falls Road.

Attorney Tom Peters and Attorney and Forester Mike Maines of Peters & Associates in Lewiston will explain contract basics to use when dealing with a forester or a logging contractor, including sample contracts. They will then speak on estate and succession planning, including discussion on the basic three documents: Will, power of attorney and living will (health care directive). The final portion will deal with planning for the succession of family forestland ownerships, camps, and cottages. Each situation is unique, so there are no standard solutions, but they’ll describe the basics: LLCs, S-corporations, and wills.

This is a continuation of the session on succession planning with Rich Merk of the SWOAM. It is free and open to the public, and pre-registration is not required.

Free showing of ‘The Hungry Heart’

NORWAY — Healthy Oxford Hills, a project of Stephens Memorial Hospital, will sponsor a free public showing of the 93-minute documentary, “The Hungry Heart: a Documentary about Prescription Drug Addiction” at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School forum.

The film tells the story of Vermont pediatrician Fred Holmes who works with patients struggling with the disease of prescription drug addiction.

The Hungry Heart is free and open to everyone; however, due to the nature of its subject matter, it is not appropriate for children.

The film will be followed by a short, optional discussion period with experts on hand to answer clinical and counseling questions.

Grange holding public ‘souper’ supper

CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Grange will hold a public “souper” supper on Friday, June 26. Serving will be between 5 and 6:30 p.m.

Homemade soups, chowders and deserts will be featured.

Cost for admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children.

Mexico High Class of ’61 to meet

MEXICO — Mexico High School Class of 1961 classmates and guests will meet at 6 p.m. Friday, June 26, at the Covered Wagon Restaurant in Mexico.

Longest Day fundraiser set for June 26

RUMFORD — The Longest Day fundraiser event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 26, at Rumford Community Home, 11 J. F. Kennedy Lane.

A barbecue consisting of hamburgers, hot dogs, beans, potato salad, chips and soda will be available for $5.

There will be a yard sale, 50/50 raffle and more.

A live broadcast from WOXO will take place until 1 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter.

The event is co-hosted by River Valley Rotary.
