PARIS — American Legion Foster-Carroll Post 72 Auxiliary of Paris chose delegates to attend Dirigo Girls State at Husson University in Bangor in June 21 to 26.
The objective of Girls State is to teach young women responsible citizenship, love for God and country, to give them opportunity to learn first-hand how their state and local government work and to teach them how to participate in the functioning of their state’s government in preparation for their future role as responsible citizens. They are educated about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship in a democracy.
The delegates were chosen by panels of teachers based on attributes of good citizenship and an interest in learning about state and local government. Students must rank in the top half of their class to participate in extra-curricular activities in order to be considered.
