The wave of robberies that has swept Lewiston for the past two months crossed the bridge into Auburn, Tuesday evening, when thieves succeeded in getting away with an automobile robe valued at $40, an inner tube and an overcoat from one automobile and another inner tube from another car. All this happened at the Lake Grove parking ground while the owners of the cars were enjoying the performances of the open air theater. It is the opinion of the Chief Buchanan of the Auburn police department that the robbery was committed by the same gang which has been operating in Lewiston.

A pair of burglars who managed to crack a six-foot-high antique safe at the former Durham Town Hall on Route 136 sometime during the past three weeks were likely very disappointed once they got it open. The burglars apparently knew what they were looking for, as they came prepared with an electric drill which was used to drill out the rivets, said Deputy Sheriff Philip Morse. The combination lock was broken and cement inside the door chipped away in order to pry the door open. An attempt had been made to remove the hinges, Morse said. The burglars found that the safe was empty.
