NEW YORK (AP) – Hollywood’s most high-profile engaged couple have finally set a wedding date.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will marry in Italy on Nov. 18, Cruise’s representative, Arnold Robinson, confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday. Holmes will wear a dress designed by Giorgio Armani, Robinson also confirmed.
The wedding date was reported by Us Weekly magazine on its Web site.
Holmes, 27, and Cruise, 44, became engaged in June 2005. Their daughter, Suri, was born April 18. She made her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine last month. The photo showed Suri peeking out of a jacket worn by Cruise with Holmes looking on.
Cruise and Holmes were first photographed together in Rome in April 2005. Two months later, the “Mission: Impossible” actor announced he had proposed to Holmes atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Holmes, who starred in TV’s “Dawson’s Creek,” was previously engaged to actor Chris Klein. Cruise, previously married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, also had a high-profile romance with Penelope Cruz.
NEW YORK (AP) – Foxy Brown has been sentenced to three years’ probation for a fight with two nail salon employees, ending an assault case that dragged on for more than two years.
Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, tried to withdraw her guilty plea but a judge said the agreement was legitimate and imposed the sentence.
“I’m innocent,” the 27-year-old rapper argued Tuesday before Judge Melissa C. Jackson, claiming she felt rushed at the time she made the plea agreement. She also said her previous lawyer had told her she would face jail time unless she agreed to the deal.
Jackson rejected the appeal for a two-week extension and new arguments, instead handing down the sentence worked out in earlier negotiations.
“The purpose of a reargument is not to let the parties go over issues that have already been decided,” Jackson said. She warned Brown that if she didn’t abide by the conditions of her probation, she faced a possible sentence of one year in jail.
Brown pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault charges in August for kicking one employee and smacking a second worker in the face on Aug. 29, 2004, in an argument over payment for a manicure at Bloomie Nails.
During the course of the trial, Brown hired three attorneys, tried once before to reverse her guilty plea and was threatened with jail time for missing a court appearance Monday. An earlier effort to reach a plea bargain last December had also fallen through.
Brown’s albums include “Ill Na Na” and “Chyna Doll.”
NEW YORK (AP) – A judge has ruled that prosecutors could not charge Busta Rhymes with possession of a weapon – a machete found inside a sport utility vehicle – following his Aug. 12 arrest on an assault charge.
Rhymes, 34, appeared at the brief hearing Tuesday before Criminal Court Judge Shawndya Simpson. The judge rejected a prosecution request for the additional charge against the rapper.
According to prosecutor Harrison Scheiloch, a machete was found in the rear seat pocket of an SUV in which Rhymes was a passenger when he was arrested following a performance at the AmsterJam Music Festival on Randall’s Island.
Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Smith, was charged with assault after he allegedly attacked a man for spitting on his car. He is due back in court Dec. 11.
The rapper, who wore two large diamond stud earrings, a gem-encrusted watch and a diamond pinkie ring, said nothing during the hearing. But he took a minute to tell the courtroom sketch artists, “I love it when you make me look good.”
He left the courthouse in a crush of photographers, camera crews and reporters, climbing into a black SUV.
Rhymes’ hits include “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” “Dangerous” and “Touch It.” He has also appeared in films, including 2000’s “Shaft” and “Finding Forrester.”
ROME (AP) – Pete Doherty broke a microphone stand and brandished it before fans during a Babyshambles concert at the Piper club.
Concert organizers said Doherty broke the stand and “threw it up in the air” Monday night, but did not say whether the stand hit anyone.
“During the concert the singer has interacted with the public “in his own way,’ but without causing riots or anything,” DNA Concerti said in a statement.
Doherty also broke all the instruments onstage during the stormy concert, the daily Corriere della Sera reported Tuesday. No one was reported injured.
According to the newspaper, the band’s drummer was hit by an object and forced to leave the stage. Doherty grabbed the microphone stand and brandished it before the fans standing in the first rows.
Doherty, 27, has had a string of arrests in London for drug possession and is undergoing a court-ordered rehabilitation program. He is the on-off boyfriend of Kate Moss.
