Summer is half over and the days already grow shorter. The birds are too busy feeding their young to sing in the morning. Wildlife abounds.
Someone left the front door open at Mary and Frank Perham’s and evidently a chipmunk ran in. With three cats on his tail he desperately ran from hiding place to hiding place. Frank had to go speak at the Norway Library so Mary left the cats to it. The next morning, after moving everything in the living room, Frank caught the poor creature and turned him loose. The chipmunk was quite exhausted and bedraggled but hopefully he recovered.
Pat and Charlie Verrill often find offerings in their sunroom. Shilah finds their menu lacking so she contributes what mice she finds. Our cat, Rajah, spends a lot of time on the screened in porch, watching the young turkeys, squirrels and birds. Then she comes in the living room and howls her frustrations out at us. She would soon sort them out if she could only go out.
We want to thank all the people who slow down or stop in front of our house and let the turkeys cross the road without being injured. We enjoy watching them grow and admire Papa Turkey, who has taken charge of one flock of young ones. Something must have happened to the mother as we no longer see her.
I must tell you we had a high old time at the party Saturday at the Red Elephant in West Paris, the big warehouse garage, and apartment house Paula and Dana purchased to house their business. Morgan family members attending were Owen, Pauline, Paul, Sandy, Andrew, Allison, Patrick and Kathy Gordon. Ruth Leino and Gordon Morgan, Theresa Willnauer, Hannah Morgan and Chris Graf, Brady and Olivia and Zachary.
Perhams were as follows Mary, Frank, Paula, Dana, Kevin Merrill Jr., Tricia, Katri, Paul, Brenda and Luke, Pam and Dylan, Jane Perham, Kelly Patty Auge and Richard, Dell and Betty Hayes, Pat and Charlie Verrill, Deven and Judi and Ian Andrews.
Paula and Dana were having Kevin Jr. for the week with several activities planned. Monday they invited the neighbors in Richardson Hollow to come to camp, mother and six offspring, for a swim. Tuesday Paula took Kevin to Moore Park. Thursday Luke joined them and they went to Gray Animal Park, with Luke staying overnight. I am sure there is much more I overlooked and also I may not have everyone’s name right or even everyone’s name at all. Cannot read my own writing anymore.
Back at the party, the children, of which their were quite a few, kept us entertained. Paula had provided hula hoops and other playthings so we watched them go at it. Kevin Jr. distinguished himself by finding a puddle and he laid himself down and played with his trucks in it. Some of us pay big money for a mud pack but he had one for free.
We are eating peas, compliments of Pat and Charlie, who had a bumper crop. They took up their pea fence this morning, which marks the end of that. As a matter of fact we are vegetarian this week, what with peas, corn, cukes, tomatoes and all. We had to go to Portland Thursday to attend to Dell’s hearing aides, having them adjusted and cleaned. So we ate at Bug A Boos and I had a small steak (delicious) and Dell had trout. Today it’s back to peas and so forth and so on.
And lastly I want to say, “ Nothing makes one more productive than the last minute.”
