rumford – In an effort to provide wholesome family entertainment, the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition and the Rumford Public Library will host a “Family Movie Night.” It will be at 6:30 Monday, July 24.
The original 1963 version of “Incredible Journey,” based on the book by Sheila Burnford, will be shown on the big screen in the library’s community room.
It tells the tale of two dogs and a cat that head for home on a 200-mile journey through the Canadian Rockies after they are separated from the family friend who’s taking care of them. With a lot of teamwork, ingenuity, and a few human friends along the way, they make it home safe and sound.
Unlike later remakes, the animals don’t “speak” in voice-overs. A narrator explains the animals’ thoughts, and for their feelings, look at their facial expressions.
There is no admission fee, however donations are welcome. Any proceeds will benefit the River Valley Healthy Communities programs.
Popcorn and lemonade will be available. For more information, contact the coalition at 364-7408.
