GRAY — The Maine Wildlife Park, Route 26 in Gray, together with the Cumberland County Beekeepers Association, a local chapter of the Maine State Beekeeping Association, will hold an informative event for visitors to learn about the official Maine state insect, the honeybee.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, visitors can learn about the industrious life of the honeybee, its job as an important pollinator of fruits and vegetables, and the role of the beekeeper. Parts of a beehive, beekeeping equipment and a small observation hive will be on display, and several experienced beekeepers will be available to answer questions.
Pure Maine Honey and other products of the hive will be available for purchase.
The Maine Wildlife Park is owned and operated by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The park exists to promote an understanding and awareness of the wildlife, conservation and habitat protection programs and projects of MDIFW. The park is open daily from Apr. 17 through Nov. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; visitors may stay until 6 p.m.
Admission to the park is free for ages 3 and under; $5.50, ages 4-12; $7.50 for adults; $5.50 for seniors. Groups of 15 or more are $3.50 per person.
