DIXFIELD — Regional School Unit 10 board hired several new staff members, created three new part-time positions, and changed the administrative structure of the Pennacook Learning Center last week.

Superintendent Craig King said Gardiner Hinkley, a Boston College graduate, was hired to teach social studies at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford. He replaces longtime social studies teacher Jarod Dumas who took an administrative position in the Oakland area.

Also appointed was Joan Casey as district school psychologist and Pam Morin as a three-fifths time literacy interventionist at Dirigo Elementary School in Peru.

Pennacook Learning Center Director Rick Greene transferred to Mountain Valley High School as a licensed clinical social worker. Former school board member Shawn White of Hartford, who was recently hired as a teacher at learning center, was appointed as director of the school for one year.

The board approved creation of a part-time districtwide van driver position, a part-time educational technician position for schools in the Buckfield-Hartford-Sumner region, and a one-fifth time academic support/behavioral specialist for the Rumford high school.

In other matters, King said a special ad hoc Buildings and Grounds Committee will resume meetings after the beginning of the school year. The committee was charged with studying all school buildings and recommending changes, restructures, and possible building closings during the past year.

Teachers return to classrooms Aug. 28. Students’ first day is Sept. 1.

The next board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Dirigo High School in Dixfield.
