1924 – 2015

NORWAY — Marjorie Alberta Martin, 91, of Oxford passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Marjorie was born in Mechanic Falls on April 12, 1924, a daughter of Harry and Gladys (Holt) Wilson. She attended Mechanic Falls schools and graduated from Mechanic Falls High School. She later attended Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in Lewiston, graduating with her registered nurse certification.

She was an active member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II, and had also worked as an RN in Boston area hospitals and for the Poland Spring Job Corps center.

She served as clinical director for Androscoggin Home Health, and also did private-duty nursing. Most recently, Marjorie worked at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris, from which she retired. During her career, she also found time to run the family greenhouse on Gore Road in Oxford.

She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John C. Martin, who died in 1989; and a sister, Althea Foster.

Surviving are five sons, John Martin Jr. of Oxford, Fred and his wife, Virginia Martin, of Eliot, James Martin of Oxford, Bob Martin and his wife, Cindy, of Poland, and Joe Martin and his wife, April, of Oxford; two daughters, Linda Martin Larratt of Acton, Mass., and Sandra Clark and husband, Timothy Sr., of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Harry Wilson of Mechanic Falls; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
