AUBURN — The Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will present an overview of its programs and services from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston, 62 Turner St.

Those who attend this presentation can learn about upcoming Volunteer Scribes and Mindful Mobility programs, a unique mind-body initiative to benefit those living with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease and their care partners.

Through the Volunteer Scribes program, Bates College students will interview and write the life stories of those living with early-stage dementia. Through the Mindful Mobility program, those with early-stage dementia can benefit from a comprehensive fitness program presented by the YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston, Central Maine Conditioning of Lewiston and students of Central Maine Community College.

Individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or related types of dementia are being sought as participants for both programs, which begin this fall.

The Sept. 10 presentation will also provide vital information about the Alzheimer’s Association’s many community-based programs and services to help those living with Alzheimer’s, as well as their care partners. These include effective support groups, care consultations and safety services.

Potential participants, those living with early-stage Alzheimer’s or related types of dementia, will be screened for eligibility in both the Volunteer Scribes and Mindful Mobility programs. Participation will be completely private and confidential. There is no cost for participation.

Advanced registration is recommended for the program by contacting Peter Baker at 207-772-0115 or by email at [email protected].
