LEWISTON – Dr. Seuss, or Theodor Geisel, wrote many zany children’s books, such as “The Cat in the Hat,” “The Lorax” and “Horton Hears a Who” – but a musical?

Although the play “Seussical” was not written by Dr. Seuss, it is based on at least 15 of his books and dozens of his characters.

Lewiston High School’s drama club, Centre Stage Ensemble, will present this children-oriented play at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Lewiston Middle School auditorium on Central Avenue.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and $20 for a family pack, which includes two adult tickets and four student/senior citizen tickets.

“Seussical” is a whimsical musical. The play begins with a little boy thinking, imagining and creating the world of Seussical and the Cat in the Hat. All the characters experience adventures and eventually the same little boy is pushed into the story himself and becomes a character in his own imaginary world. The show continues with music galore and an inspiring ending.

Some veteran Centre Stage Ensemble members are Elisabeth Messer, Brandon Dubois, Caitlin Rider, Jessica Fortin, Christopher Hodgkin, Crystal Packard, Kelin Sevit, Shawn Sabourin, Rachel Spilecki, Ben Lowe, Jenna Barry, Michele Fortier, Devon Dickey, and Amanda Martin.

LHS students received assistance with the show from Richard Martin, director/light designer/set designer; Marissa Jalbert and Rachel Spilecki, producers; Rebecca Poppke, vocal director; Jim Raymond, music director; Lacey Michaud, choreographer; Marissa Jalbert, costumer; Susan Jalbert, props; and Jacob Chaloux, sound designer.

“Seussical” cast members will read to children at 10 a.m. today at the Lewiston Public Library.
