AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library will host author Gerry Boyle at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

Boyle, crime novelist and creator of the acclaimed Jack McMorrow mystery series, has recently released his novel “Once Burned.”

When someone starts torching buildings in the idyllic town of Sanctuary, Maine, Jack McMorrow is on it. This is, after all, a town named one of the “Ten Best Secrets” by a national magazine. The secret turns out to be the identity of the arsonist, who soon leaves a trail of dead bodies that leads straight to Jack, Roxanne and their daughter Sophie. Will they be the next to die?

Like many crime novelists, Boyle began his writing career in newspapers. His first reporting job was with a weekly in the paper mill town of Rumford. It was there that Boyle says he left his sweaty mark on high-school wrestling coverage while using his time and experiences in Rumford to write his first novel, “Deadline.” After a few months, he moved on to Maine Morning Sentinel where he wrote a thrice-weekly column and stories about police stations and courtrooms.
