Dollar General recently made $1,000 donations to each of five schools in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties to help fund literacy initiatives or a use of their choosing.

The beneficiaries were Thomas J. McMahon Elementary of Lewiston, Fairview Elementary School of Auburn, Turner Elementary School, Academy Hill School of Wilton and Mollyockett Middle School of Fryeburg.

The donations are part of the mission of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
