DENMARK — The Denmark Arts Center will present “The Belle of Amherst,” a one-woman show about Emily Dickinson performed by Jane Staab, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

The years have been kind to Emily Dickinson: her stature as a distinctly American giant of poetry only grows apace with the passage of time. Her extraordinary powers of observation, coupled with her verbal wit and remarkable approach to rhythm, conspired to bequeath to posterity a body of work unequalled for its delicacy and captivating perspective on the interplay of nature and spirit.

The “Belle of Amherst” is a captivating portrait of Dickinson in her Amherst home. Based on her poems, letters and notes, this stunning play recollects Emily Dickinson’s encounters with the significant people in her life — family, close friends and acquaintances. It balances her seclusion with bright moments of pure joy.

This production was originally staged at the Harwich Jr. Theater on Cape Cod and is a tribute to the theater’s dear friend, Julie Harris, who won the 1977 Academy Award for the role. Tickets are $10.
