HEBRON – The Hebron Academy Players will present “The Wiz,” William F. Brown and Charlie Smalls’ remake of the classic fairy tale, Friday, Feb. 24, and Saturday, Feb. 25.

The shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the academy’s Androscoggin Theater in Sargent Gymnasium.

In this updated version of the “Wizard of Oz,” Dorothy and friends “Ease On Down the Road” to the mysterious Oz with rock, soul and blues tunes that keep feet tapping. The retelling of the tale features the themes of rising above one’s background and the expectations of others.

Actors in the play include more than 40 students from each grade at Hebron (grades six to 12), with students contributing to every facet of the production, from pit band or marketing to set design and stage management.

Julie Middleton, Hebron’s associate director of admissions and a dorm faculty member, is directing “The Wiz.” Shailer Barron, a Latin teacher with a music performance background, is assistant director; and Paul Thibeault, music teacher and dorm faculty, is musical director.

Parking will be available in the Robinson Arena lot, just off Route 119 on the Hebron campus.

The shows are free and open to the public.
