Breastfeeding group has met

AUBURN — The La Leche League, a breastfeeding group, meets on the second Thursday of the month, which means the meeting was held Oct. 8, rather than Oct. 14 as reported in Thursday’s Sun Journal. The wrong date was submitted.

Robin Dow Seniors planning train ride

AUBURN — Robin Dow Senior Citizens met on Sept. 23 for a fun day and Italian sandwich lunch. Nancy Roy gave the opening prayer.

Members will meet Wednesday, Oct. 14, starting with a director’s meeting at 10:30 a.m. and a regular meeting to follow at Schooner Estates. Tickets will be on sale for the Halloween luncheon as well as the Thanksgiving meal at the Green Ladle and Christmas meal at the Ramada.

Children’s church program to begin

AUBURN — The children’s program at St. Michael’s Church, Pleasant Street, will start Sunday, Oct. 11. The children will have choir practice (Joyful Noise) from 8:15 to 9 a.m., Godly Play lesson from 9 to- 9:20, snack and a craft from 9:20 to 10.

Children will finish the program by attending the church service.

The children will also have celebrations throughout the year.

Homecoming picnic was held Sept. 27 with a barbecue and games. The first Sunday of every month is a Family Sunday where the children participate in conducting the service.

Officials to discuss drug problems

AUBURN — Matt Cashman of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Jason Moen from the Auburn Police Department will speak on local and state drug issues and what is happening to combat the problems from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Gipper’s Sports Grill, 120 Center St.

The program is open to the public. Complimentary light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

The Auburn Exchange Club is sponsoring the event.

Historical society to hear archivist

MINOT — The Minot Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, when speaker will be Pat Webber, head of the Bates College Muskie Archives. He will discuss “Archiving Practices” and will give ideas for archiving families.

The November meeting will be changed to Nov. 17, when a Tel Aviv resident will talk on his study of an early dogsled mail run from Minot to Montreal.

All are welcome.

Annette Vance Dorey discussed her book on Miss Dr. Lucy and Maine’s pioneering female physicians from the 1850s to 1920 at the September meeting. A potluck dinner was held prior to the program.

Bridge play to resume on Oct. 13

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on Oct. 5 were: first, Les Buzzell and Roger Labbe; second, Richard Balian and Paul Clement; third, Claire Lyons and Rosemarie Goodwin.

Winners on Oct. 6 were: first, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; second/first in B, Nancy Farmer and Hazel Glazier; third/fourth tie, Les Buzzell and Fred Letourneau with Patricia Garcia and David Lock; second in B/first in C: Kathy Burden and Sue Kaluzynski; second in C, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr.

Technology class for seniors at APL

AUBURN  — The Auburn Public Library will host a special technology class for seniors from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Staff will use tablets to show how to access the Internet, create an email account, become familiar with Facebook and more, thanks to help from BoomerTECH Adventures.

This is a part of the “Tech for Seniors” project, which is funded through a grant from the Maine State Library. The Auburn, Bethel, Lewiston and Norway public libraries are bringing seniors to technology and technology to seniors.
