SOUTH PARIS — Healthy Oxford Hills and the Marj and Fred Stockwell Charitable Endowment will host the 15th annual Alcoholism and Addictions Conference from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the First Congregational Church.
Featured presenters this year include addiction specialist Dr. Mark Publicker, who will speak on the “Disease Concept of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction.” Matt B., who has six years of recovery under his belt, will talk about his journey through opiate addiction. Dr. Peter Leighton will present on “Opiate Addiction: Demystifying the Story of Medication-Assisted Treatment.”
Superior Court Judge Lance Walker will talk on his “View from the Bench,” and Sheriff Wayne Gallant will talk about his “View from the Cruiser.” Attendees will hear from 12-step members, and Bill Lowenstein will be welcomed back and speak about trauma, addiction and recovery.
The event has sold out by late October the past five years, and early registration is recommended. The cost is $15, scholarships are available as needed. The fee includes food and coffee for the day.
