FARMINGTON — Police say the driver of a vehicle that struck a van around noon Monday on Routes 2 and 4 drove away without stopping.

Conley Gould Sr., 78, of Madrid Township was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country east on Wilton Road toward Farmington, Farmington police officer Justin Blais said.

As Gould was passing Whittier Road, a vehicle pulled out from Whittier Road heading toward Wilton. Gould attempted to avoid the vehicle but it hit the passenger-side doors, scraped the side of the vehicle and kept going, Blais said.

Police found a passenger-side headlight and a Ford detail left by the vehicle, which must must have received significant damage, he said.

When police asked Farmington Ford about the headlight, a mechanic thought it probably came from a 2008 Ford Focus.

Conley had two passengers with him; his wife, Glennis, 78, and Betty Carrier, 56, of Phillips.

No one was hurt, Blais said.

The passenger-side door was damaged on the van with scrapes and rubber marks from the tire. The van was driven away from the scene, he said.

After the vehicle drove off, Blais alerted Wilton police to look for the damaged car, but the department was busy with another incident and was not able to help, he said. Blais could not find the vehicle.

Gould’s passengers thought the vehicle was silver in color but were unable to provide more details because it all happened so fast, he said.

Blais has alerted other police departments and will continue the investigation, he said.

Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene.
